Obtaining a Marriage Certificate
NC Vital Records manages marriage certificates from 1962 onwards.
Older certificates are available at county Register of Deeds offices.
North Carolina mandates obtaining a marriage license before marriage, available through local register of deeds offices.
The NC Judicial Branch provides information on marriage requirements and licenses. Various ordering options are detailed on the website linked below, with fees outlined including a nonrefundable search fee of $24 per three-year period.
Requests for amendments to marriage certificates should be directed to the county register of deeds.
To check order status, users can consult processing dates and fill out a General Issuance Status Request form if needed (Actions below).
